Dolly Parton’s Stampede receives Top Job Creator Award

Following a shorter than expected break after the first season, Dolly opened her Stampede in Myrtle Beach for its second regular season on, February 12, 1993. Soon after, Dolly and her attraction received praise from SC Governor Carroll Campbell.

As one of South Carolina’s top new job providers, Dolly’s Stampede was given the Top Job Creator Award. The dinner show created 200 jobs when it opened in June of 1992. Plans to remain open for 10 months out of the year increased their annual employment. Before the opening of her Stampede, Dolly was quoted as saying,

“I love to entertain, but I also love to help people,”

when asked about the economic impact of opening a dinner show in Myrtle Beach.

The initial 200 jobs included musicians, singers, trick riders, stable hands, comedians, magicians and horse riders. Because of the show’s success, Dolly and her team had planned to hire even more people for Stampede’s second season.

Dolly Parton’s Stampede celebrates its 25th anniversary

Dolly’s Stampede opened its doors in 1987, as one of the first dinner show attractions of its kind. Dolly was quoted as saying,

“I just thought it was a great show idea and no one was really doing anything like it when we started. It sounded like a lot of fun and a great way to tell a story.”

Twenty-five years later, her Stampede is still a standout among dinner shows and attractions.

From a larger-than-life picture that smiles down on guests as they leave the Stampede, to souvenirs, and her easily recognizable voice, Dolly’s image is stamped on her dinner show attraction. Most notably, however, might be the show’s finale—a blend of pageantry and patriotism set to Dolly’s “Color Me America!”

Part of Stampede’s appeal over the years has been its ability give the audience what it knows and loves, while also bringing something new to the table. Dolly works with her production team to decide what parts of the show stay, and what elements might work well for the dinner show attraction. Dolly says she loves this show and guarantees,

“It’s the Smokies’ Most Fun Place to Eat!”

Dolly’s Stampede in Branson, MO is celebrating a milestone

In 2014, the popular and unique dinner show attraction celebrates its 20th season. Its ability to stand out and have a broad, generational appeal may be what keeps guests coming back for more.

“Dolly’s Stampede really is a product that is designed to make all of those individuals happy. Creating a product that crosses generational lines is key to our past and future successes,”

says the attraction’s marketing director John Richardson. Stampede features 32 magnificent horses, dozens of cast members and seating for 1,000 people in a 35,000 square foot arena.

For the 20th brighter, bolder Roman Ride of Fire, new and returning guests have something to look forward to.

“It’s our obligation, effort and requirement to do everything at the highest level possible and keep on top of our game with everything about our operation, because Dolly Parton does not own businesses that aren’t the best at what they do,”

says Richardson. As always, guests will enjoy Stampede’s signature meal—Original Creamy Vegetable Soup, a cheddar biscuit, a whole rotisserie chicken, a slice of hickory-smoked pork loin, corn on the cob, half a roasted potato and a specialty dessert.

Since opening the doors in 1988, more than 20 million people have visited Stampede Pigeon Forge

In 1986, Dolly met with Fred Hardwick to discuss the concept of a dinner attraction that would become the Stampede. Twenty years later, this popular and unique theatre had expanded to three locations and reached another major milestone— 20 million visitors.

Two years after the initial meeting, Dolly and her team of developers opened the first Stampede Pigeon Forge, Tenn. That was 1988. Four years later, in 1992, Dolly’s plans for growth began to take off with the opening of a Stampede in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Three years later, in 1995, Dolly opened her third Stampede location in Branson, Mo.

Dolly’s Stampede is a unique experience. It begins with an open air Horse Walk, where guests can learn more about the stars of the show—32 magnificent horses. Visitors are then ushered into a saloon, where they enjoy specialty drinks and snacks, as well as, some entertainment to prepare them for the main show. In a 35,000 square foot arena, guests are treated to a four-course meal, as they are thrilled by top-notch trick riding, singing, dancing and comedy.

Dolly opens new Stampede Branson, MO

Following the success of her Stampede in Pigeon Forge, TN, and Myrtle Beach, SC, Dolly and her team of developers set their sights on Branson, MO. While similar to the Pigeon Forge and Myrtle Beach locations, Stampede Branson had its own unique attributes. The open-air stables, where guests could view the 32 magnificent horses starring in the show, were extended and stretched from the parking area to the front doors. It was all part of the family experience intended for guests. Its saloon show in the Carriage Room featured unique performers—including a singing cowboy who rode his horse into the audience and a juggling comedian.

The main show inside the arena included some of the same top-notch trick riding, performing and comedy as the other locations, and of course, a four-course feast that would not leave you hungry.
