Listen to “What’s Up? (feat. Linda Perry)” from Dolly Parton’s Upcoming Rockstar Album

Music Video For New Single Premieres Worldwide Via MTV & CMT With Paramount Times Square Broadcast

Dolly Parton has released the latest track off her upcoming Rock n’ Roll album, Rockstar (available on November 17th via Butterfly Records) – a stirring rendition of the ‘90s hit, “What’s Up?,” which features the song’s writer and lead singer, Linda Perry. A song about the at-times, overwhelming pressures of the world around us and the need for release. Dolly’s angelic and hopeful voice ushers in a sense of promise for a better tomorrow.

“First of all, I love Linda Perry,” Dolly shared. “Second of all, I love this song written by Linda. Third of all, I love being a part of this video to try to make people think about what’s going on in this world today. Shout out to the little children that helped with the video! If our children don’t make it, then what will? Again, I ask ‘What’s Up?’ Enjoy.”

“How is one supposed to react when the greatest and most prolific songwriter in the world wants to cover a song YOU wrote? Her version of ‘What’s Up?’ is so good,” Linda said. “Her spin on it made me feel like it was her song. No surprise there. Being on set making the video was a comfortable easy experience. The vibe on set was chill and Dolly and I got to catch up and laugh a lot. I could go on and on, obviously I’m a fan!”

The Nashville community will have a unique opportunity to take a peek “behind the seams” at Dolly Parton’s iconic outfits in a special exhibition at Lipscomb University this fall. Lipscomb’s Department of Fashion and Design presents “Dolly Parton and the Makers: My Life in Rhinestones,” happening from October 31 to December 9 in the John C. Hutcheson Gallery in the university’s Beaman Library.

The one-of-a-kind, limited-time fashion exhibition will feature 25 of Dolly’s fashions from throughout her storied career and will highlight the makers behind the looks, the songs, the stories, and the true magic that happens behind the seams. This fashion exhibition will be the first physical interpretation of Dolly’s new fashion-focused book, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” set for release on October 17 via Ten Speed Press/Penguin Random House and available for preorder here.

“We are thrilled to partner with Dolly Parton and those behind her iconic fashion to offer the community this exciting opportunity to have an up-close look at some of her favorite outfits and to learn more about these treasured looks,” said Lipscomb University President Candice McQueen. “This unique fashion exhibition will also provide tremendous learning opportunities for our students as they discover more about the creative process and techniques and interact with the makers who have developed these fashions.”

In “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” Dolly shares for the first time the full story behind her lifelong passion for fashion, including how she developed her own distinctly Dolly style, which has endeared her to fans around the world. The exhibit is curated by Dolly’s archivist Rebecca Seaver.

Seaver also curated “Behind The Seams: My Life In Rhinestones.” Dolly’s former head seamstress, Iisha Lemming, will serve as Artist-in-Residence for the Department of Fashion & Design this fall to assist in the development and execution of the exhibit.

“Iisha Lemming has worked for me over 15 years and is the artist-in-residence at Lipscomb University,” said Dolly. “Iisha and Rebecca Seaver have put together this display celebrating the makers of these clothes and 25 of my favorite looks celebrating the people who make it all happen.”

Dolly Parton and NBCUniversal Collaborate on “We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You” Video to Promote One Year Until Olympic Games Paris 2024

Dolly Parton is collaborating with NBCUniversal on the video for her new song “We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You,” which will be used to promote NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 that begin one year from today.

“We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You” is Dolly’s cover of the famous rock anthems by Queen and a new song from her upcoming album Rockstar, which was inspired by her 2022 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The album is set for global release on November 17.

A huge fan of the Olympics and Team USA, Dolly aligned with NBCU to produce an Olympic-themed video that celebrates the athletes and gets people excited about next year’s Games in Paris. Various lengths of the video are debuting today across NBCUniversal’s unprecedented array of platforms — exactly one year before the Opening Ceremony in Paris.

“I love the Olympics! I do my best to plan my schedule to watch as much of it as I possibly can,” says Dolly. “I tape it just in case I miss the live action on a certain day and watch it back as soon as possible. I laugh, I cry, I scream, there are no losers in the Olympics as they have all spent a lifetime preparing but I celebrate with the ones that go away with the gold, silver, and bronze medals.”

“We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You”

The video begins with Dolly singing in an empty stadium. As the tenor of the song builds, the video is infused with a spectacle of moving pictures that only the Olympics can provide – spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies from the past, iconic highlights known the world over, and athletes enduring adversity, demonstrating perseverance, and becoming champions. Olympians and teams featured in the video include Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Noah Lyles, Katie Ledecky, the women’s soccer team, men’s and women’s basketball teams, and a host of international athletes. The video also features Dolly performing in front of a sparkling Eiffel Tower and concludes with her surrounded by fans in a full stadium all singing “We Are The Champions” until it crescendos and transitions into “We Will Rock You.”

“Dolly Parton is an American Icon whose popularity and recognition across generations is unmatched,” said Jenny Storms, CMO, Entertainment and Sports, NBCUniversal. “She is also a close member of the NBCUniversal family, an Olympic super-fan, and has a new version of two of the greatest sports anthems of all time. So, she was the perfect choice to get America excited about Team USA and next summer’s Paris Olympics.”

The Olympic Games Paris 2024

The 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics will be presented across the networks of NBCUniversal and Peacock in the summer of 2024. NBCUniversal owns the U.S. media rights to the Olympic Games through 2032, which are scheduled for Paris (2024), Milan Cortina (2026), Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032). The host city for the 2030 Winter Olympics has not been selected. NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Paris Paralympics runs Aug. 28 – Sept. 8, 2024.
