Festival of Nations kicks off Dollywood's 28th season

Dolly visited Dollywood to kick off one of its biggest seasons to date, beginning with Festival of Nations and the opening of Wild Eagle, America’s first wing coaster. The festival’s headlining show, "Spirit of the Dance," surprised guests on opening weekend with a walk-on from Dolly herself! Dolly also appeared in two of the festival’s other shows, Argentina’s "Los Pampas Gauchos" and "The Paper Show by Mimirichi" from Ukraine.

The Dollywood 2012 season received five Golden Ticket Awards for Best Food, Friendliest Park, Best New Ride (Wild Eagle), Best Shows and Best Christmas Event.

Dollywood makes history as they allow guests to soar like an eagle with the park's new steel wing coaster, Wild Eagle

Dolly and Dollywood made history on March 23, 2012, as her theme park launched its new $20 million Wild Eagle, the first steel wing coaster in the U.S. Dolly said,

“Wild Eagle was a long time in the makin’ but truly worth every minute as that incredible bird took flight over Dollywood. From everything folks are telling me, Wild Eagle is somethin’ else, and I hope folks from around the world come to Dollywood to earn their wings. Or as I like to say, be an eagle not a chicken!”

Wild Eagle at Dollywood won the Golden Ticket Award for Best New Attraction in 2012.

Park makes Dolly proud as it wins Best Shows and claims a repeat win for Best Christmas Event at the 2009 Golden Ticket Awards

Dollywood took home its first trophy for Best Shows and claimed a second consecutive win for Best Christmas Event at the 2009 Golden Ticket Awards. The ceremony was held on Sept. 10, 2009, at LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad, Ca.

Dollywood was a finalist in four additional categories, taking third place honors for Friendliest Park and Cleanest Park. It earned fourth place honors for Best Food and Best Water Ride for the Mountain Slidewinder. Dollywood’s Thunderhead, twice named the number one wooden coaster in the world, placed fifth in the rankings of Top 50 Wooden Roller Coasters in the World.

Thunderhead wins a second Golden Ticket Award for Best Wooden Coaster

Guests felt the thunder and they like it!  For the second year in a row, Dollywood’s Thunderhead roller coaster was named the number one wooden coaster in the world by the voters of the 2006 Golden Tickets Awards. It edged out The Voyage at Holiday World, Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce, and Hades at Mount Olympus Theme Park for the prize.

Voters described the smooth ride, unpredictability and re-rideability of the coaster, as reasons for its success. In 2004, Thunderhead was the highest debuting wooden coaster in the history of the awards. While Thunderhead received rave reviews, that’s not the only thing people are talking about at Dollywood. The theme park placed in six additional categories at the Golden Tickets Awards.

The Thunderhead roller coaster was also named Coaster of the Year and Best New Wood Coaster at the 2005 Coasters' Choice Awards. It was the first wooden coaster to take the top honor in the awards' five-year history.
