Dolly Parton’s biggest RCA hits continue to sell and stream in digital age as RIAA certifies multiple singles

Dolly Parton was recently surprised with the news of four Recording Industry Association certification awards upgrades.

She was presented with plaques in recognition of the RIAA Gold certification of her recording of “I Will Always Love You” (RCA) with over 500,000 digital sales and streams, Gold certification of “Jolene” (RCA) with over 500,000 digital sales and streams and Platinum certification of “9 To 5” (RCA) which has amassed over one million digital sales and streams. Of special note, the song “9 To 5,” written by Dolly, has taken on heightened awareness as the music bed to a new “Northwestern Mutual” national television commercial.

“What a fantastic way to start off a new year,” says an enthusiastic Dolly, “By being honored by the Emmys, RIAA and Guinness World Records folks! I am so flattered and proud!"

As the sole songwriter of “I Will Always Love You,” as recorded by Whitney Houston on “The Bodyguard” film soundtrack (Legacy/Arista), Dolly received a fourth plaque commemorating Triple-Platinum certification for over three million digital sales and streams of the smash hit.

The Academy of Country Music named “Forever Country” Video of the Year

The epic video created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CMAs was named Video of the Year at the ACM Awards on Sunday, April 2. The win is a testament to the mutual respect and admiration within the country music community.

“Forever Country” produced by Shane McAnally and directed by Joseph Kahn was the first production of it’s kind. It features 29 artists from different eras. The song is a mashup of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson and “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by the late John Denver.

After accepting the award, producer Shane McAnally reflected on the recording experience. He recalled the morning Dolly visited the studio to record her “I Will Always Love You” parts. He said,

“I can tell you that the vocal that’s on it is the first thing that came out of her mouth. It is completely untuned and it is exactly the way she sang it the first time. There are no words for that moment.”

Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan hosted the 52nd Annual ACM Awards in Las Vegas, NV.

Forever Country was nominated along with the following:

Dolly’s sister, Stella Parton releases a new album, Mountain Songbird “A Sister’s Tribute.”

Stella Parton, who recently starred as Corla Bass in “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors,” released a new album called Mountain Songbird “A Sister’s Tribute.” The project features 11 of Stella’s favorite Dolly songs and two original cuts.

Stella co-wrote the title track “Mountain Songbird” with Tom T. and Dixie Hall. It shares Stella’s perspective of what she and the family were feeling when Dolly left for Nashville, TN at 18-years-old. The sisters teamed up to co-write "More Power To Ya," an empowering, original song featuring Dolly's harmony vocals. Dolly said,

“Stella is a great singer, entertainer and songwriter. All the more reason I am so proud she decided to do a tribute CD of my songs.”

Choosing 11 songs from Dolly's musical vault was a difficult task for Stella, especially considering Dolly has written over 3,000. Stella commented on making her selections,

“So in the end, while making the decision to record this tribute album of 11 of my favorites, I decided to sing the story songs, because they resonated with me the most.”

"Coat of Many Colors," "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" are among those songs Stella selected. Stella will promote Mountain Songbird "A Sister's Tribute" in an upcoming tour in the United Kingdom.
