"Kenny, Dolly and Willie: Something Inside So Strong" was taped as part of a live concert for NASA employees and their families. During the show, the three friends took turns singing each other’s hits in a medley of songs which included "Two Doors Down" and "Real Love."
The special’s finale featured Kenny, Dolly and Willie singing "Something Inside So Strong." It became NBC's highest rated variety show and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series.
In September 1987, Dolly hosted her second variety show. The television variety show’s format was similar to "The Carol Burnett Show," a popular show in the late 70s.
Guest stars included country stars Tammy Wynette and Merle Haggard as well as television stars Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck and Oprah Winfrey. Dolly’s creative input helped the show evolve into a more down home feeling, a sharp contrast to the more lavish earlier episodes. She closed each show just as she did her previous variety series, with her signature self-penned hit "I Will Always Love You."
The song appeared on the compilation album "The Winning Hand." The album featured songs by Dolly, Willie, Brenda Lee and Kris Kristofferson from their time at Monument Records.
The single, "Everything’s Beautiful (In Its Own Way)" reached No. 7 on the US Country Singles Charts.
