72nd Emmy® Awards nominations announced as Television Academy recognizes fresh faces and longtime favorites including Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings (Netflix)

Nominations for the 72nd Emmy® Awards were announced today recognizing a host of groundbreaking new programs and up-and-coming talent, along with beloved performers and hit shows that have been integral in helping television viewers navigate a changing world.

Dolly Parton's Heartstrings: These Old Bones (Netflix • A Warner Bros. Television Production) is nominated for Outstanding Television Movie. The film stars Kathleen Turner, Ginnifer Goodwin and Kyle Bornheimer. Based on the stories and songs of Dolly Parton and written for television by Jim Strain it is about a mysterious mountain woman who steps into the spotlight as a lawyer struggles to find her voice of seeing, believing and everything between. Dolly said,

"'These Old Bones' from Heartstrings is my personal favorite of all of the shows in the series. It's based on a true character from my childhood. Kathleen Turner did a wonderful job portraying 'Old Bones.' Thanks to Ginnifer Goodwin and all of the other wonderful actors who helped bring this story to life. Thanks to the Academy, Netflix, Warner Bros. and especially my partner and executive producer Sam Haskell.

This nomination marks Dolly’s third EMMY® Award nomination. She received her first in 1978 for Outstanding Continuing Or Single Performance By A Supporting Actress In Variety Or Music which she received for her role on ABC’s Cher...Special. In 2017, Dolly Parton's Christmas Of Many Colors: Circle Of Love (NBC) was nominated for Outstanding Television Movie.

Nomination Ceremony

The live nomination ceremony, reimagined as a virtual event due to production restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, was hosted by Supermarket Sweep star and Saturday Night Live alumnus Leslie Jones with presenters Laverne Cox (Inventing Anna), Josh Gad (Central Park), Tatiana Maslany (Perry Mason) and Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma.

Netflix leads the nominations in totals by platform with 160, setting a record previously held by HBO with 137 nominations in 2019. HBO had the second-most nominations with 107, and rounding out the top five were NBC with 47, ABC with 36 and FX with 33.

72nd Emmy® Awards

The 72nd Emmy® Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who also serves as executive producer for television’s biggest night. Recently announced executive producers for the telecast include Guy Carrington, Reginald Hudlin, David Jammy and Ian Stewart. The show will be broadcast, SUNDAY, SEPT. 20 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EDT/5:00-8:00 p.m. PDT), on ABC. The 2020 Creative Arts Awards will air on FXX on Saturday, September 19 at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT.

The Paley Center for Media announces the first Virtual Paleyfest LA and Dolly Parton is among those selected.

PaleyFest LA selections include Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, Justin Bieber: Seasons, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Mrs. America, One Day at a Time, Outlander, Ozark, and Queer Eye.

The Paley Center for Media today announced that PaleyFest LA, the country’s premier television festival will be held virtually for the first time on the Paley Center’s YouTube Channel, with Citi serving as the official sponsor. Starting on Friday, August 7, all programs will be available for view to Citi cardmembers, and Paley Patron and Supporting Members; Sunday, August 9, to Paley Center Individual Members; Monday, August 10 to the public.

The Virtual PaleyFest LA selections include Netflix’s Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, YouTube’s Justin Bieber: Seasons, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, Amazon Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, FX on Hulu’s Mrs. America, Pop TV’s One Day at a Time, Starz’s Outlander, Netflix’s Ozark, and Netflix’s Queer Eye.

Additionally, the Paley Center will host a conversation with the cast and creative team from Pop TV’s Schitt’s Creek, as they reflect on their sixth and final season. This special PaleyFest presentation will be available exclusively to Citi cardmembers and Paley Center members for view on the Paley Center’s website.

Television fans who become a Paley Member will have the opportunity to watch the exclusive Schitt’s Creek event. Additionally, fans who make a tax-deductible donation of $50 or more to the Paley Center, a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, will see their name included onscreen during the closing credit of each PaleyFest event. Touted as the most-decorated female country music performer of all time, Dolly Parton didn’t allow her previous successes to slow her down! 2019 proved to be an unbelievable year for an already widely celebrated and successful country music icon and business mogul! Nominations

Having been awarded eight Grammy Awards and nominated for forty-eight, Dolly is no stranger to being recognized for her talent! Dolly’s collaborations on “God Only Knows” with KING & COUNTRY and “Girl in the Movies” with Linda Perry lead to two more Grammy nominations at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song
With the success of “God Only Knows,” in collaboration with KING & COUNTRY, Dolly received a nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song. This award is given to the artist(s) and songwriter(s) (for new compositions) for the best contemporary Christian pop, Christian rap/hip-hop, or Christian rock single or track.

Best Song Written For Visual Media
Based on the novel by Julie Murphy, Netflix film Dumplin’ released in 2018 featured Dolly Parton’s uplifting song “Girl in the Movies.” This dreamy ballad led to Dolly & Linda Perry receiving a nomination for Best Song Written For Visual Media. A Songwriter(s) award. For a song (melody & lyrics) written specifically for a motion picture, television, video games or other visual media.

In addition to Dolly’s personal musical success, Dollywood also received a nomination for it’s Smoky Mountain Christmas. Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas was nominated for USA Today 10Best Award for the best theme park holiday event in the US.

While receiving these nominations throughout the year, Dolly also received multiple honors for both her personal achievements and business acumen.

2019 MusiCares® Person Of The Year - Grammy
