Dolly makes guest appearance on 'Alvin and the Chipmunks'

Dolly appeared in the "Urban Chipmunk" episode of the animated television show, "Alvin and the Chipmunks."  The episode originally aired on Nov. 5, 1983, and featured Alvin and the Chipmunks entering a singing contest to win a chance to sing with Dolly, who is Alvin’s favorite country singer. Unfortunately, the rules state that only contestants from Nashville, Tenn., can win. The Chipmunks win but aren't from Nashville so hijinks ensue.

The series aired from 1983 to 1990 on NBC and was the follow-up to the original series "The Alvin Show" which aired in the early 1960s. The show revolved around the shenanigans of three chipmunk brothers named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore and their human adoptive father named David. Very popular among children, the show aired in syndication on multiple television networks.

Dolly’s song, '9 to 5' earned a People's Choice Award for Favorite Song from a Motion Picture

The song appears on her album, "9 to 5 and Odd Jobs." It is based on the film of the same name in which Dolly starred alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Dolly explained in her Rolling Stone interview why she accepted the role that inspired the hit song,

"'Nine to Five' fascinated me, and I knew instantly that I should do it – I knew that it was a career move. And it fell together really well – just according to my lists."

Dolly was unable to attend the awards show. Her "9 to 5" co-star, Dabney Coleman, accepted the award on her behalf and Ann Jillian performed the song.

The 7th Annual People's Choice Awards were held at the Desilu TV studios in Los Angeles, California on, March 9, 1981. The show was broadcast on CBS.

'Lily: Sold Out' - Made-For-TV movie starring Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton

The made-for-television movie, "Lily: Sold Out," tells the story of the real-life Lily Tomlin, played by Tomlin, taking her successful Broadway show to Vegas. In the film, Dolly played herself in a supporting role, along with guest stars Liberace, Joan Rivers, and Paul Anka.

 

Dolly and Carol Burnette co-star in television variety special, 'Dolly and Carol in Nashville.'

On February 14, 1979, Dolly partnered with Carol Burnett to star in a variety television special titled, "Dolly and Carol in Nashville." During the show, Dolly sang several songs, including "Amazing Grace," "I'll Fly Away" and "Turn Around." Carol and Dolly also performed various comedic skits together during the broadcast.

The U.K. sitcom "Butterflies" (1978-1983) featured Dolly’s song "Love Is Like a Butterfly" as its theme song

The "Butterflies" version was sung by British singer Clare Torry, backed by a band led by BBC composer Ronnie Hazlehurst. The show focused on the day-to-day life of the fictional Parkinson family living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. "Love is Like a Butterfly" was played at the beginning of every episode.
