“Celebrating legendary women in country music” – the resinating theme of “The 53rd Annual CMA Awards” did not disappoint. The opening number of the show could have very easily been mistaken for the finale as it featured one female country legend after another singing some of the genre’s most moving songs.

Opening Number

Dolly, Reba and Carrie brought the crowd to their feet with harmonies as smooth as a new hairdo, when they kicked the show off with “Those Memories.” Of course, Reba and Carrie were channeling their inner Emmylou and Linda as this song was recorded by Dolly, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris in 1987 on their first Trio album. Jennifer Nettles, Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild held the momentum with Loretta Lynn’s “You’re Lookin’ at Country” with Jennifer fittingly recognizing the first woman to win the Entertainer of the Year award sitting on the front row.

The veil lifted on a second section of the stage revealing Dolly and the Highwomen (Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile and Amanda Shires) with Tammy Wynette’s “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad.” From then the hits just kept coming with Tanya Tucker singing her own “Delta Dawn,” Gretchen Wilson with “Redneck Woman” and Crystal Gale and her classic “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” With her guitar, Terri Clark burst into “Better Things To Do” and Sara Evans rose up with “Born to Fly.” The closer, enter Martina McBride, with the consequential women’s empowerment anthem, “Independence Day.”

Dolly, Reba and Carrie Shine

Reba, enchanted the crowd with her wardrobe changes while performing her 1991 hit, “Fancy” which didn’t let anybody down. Carrie delivered her jazzy new single, “Drinking Alone.” And Dolly graced the stage with a spiritual number which included her recent collaborations with Zach Williams and for King & Country. She ended with a breath-taking “Have a Little Faith in Me,” her most recent collaboration (with Galantis & Mr. Probz) that landed Dolly her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales Chart.

Notable Highlight

At the end of his performance of “God’s Country,” Blake Shelton hugged fiddle player, Jenee Fleenor, congratulating her on her big win. Earlier in the day, she won Musician of the Year. Jenee was not only the first woman to win this award but also the first woman to receive a nomination in the category in the 53-year history of the CMA Awards.

Dolly Parton & Glantis Debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales Chart

After teaming up with Swedish DJ/production duo Galantis and Dutch vocalist Mr. Probz, country legend, Dolly Parton has landed her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart!

The Duo’s third studio album “Church,” arriving next year via Big Beat Records will feature Dolly Parton and Mr. Probz on “Faith”

“Faith” Music Video Starring Dolly Parton Out Now

Internationally-acclaimed, GRAMMY-nominated duo Galantis joined forces with country music icon Dolly Parton for their new single “Faith” featuring Dutch singer-songwriter Mr. Probz – available now via Big Beat Records. The explosive collaborative track arrives with an incredible Dano Cerny-directed music video, seeing Parton take the wheel for a dance-packed bus ride to remember. Galantis have also announced their forthcoming third studio album “Church,” the highly anticipated follow-up to 2015’s “Pharmacy” & 2017’s “The Aviary,” arriving early 2020.

“I was on the phone with a Christian (Karlsson), talking about a song called ‘Faith’ and an album called ‘Church,’” said Dolly Parton of how the collaboration came to be. “I knew I was in the right place.”

Centered around a classic John Hiatt lyric, “Faith” is an uplifting call for unity and hope set to signature Galantis production. After making an expectedly long-shot call to Parton, her agreement to join the song resulted in Karlsson immediately flying to Nashville to cut vocals in person with the legend herself.

“It’s important for us to have meaning behind our music” explained Galantis. “Our album ‘Church’ doesn’t necessarily refer to a building or specific religion, but instead to people banded together in similar belief for a better humanity. Whether it’s advocating peace, change, or just lifting each other up – that is our ‘Faith’ and ‘Church.’”

Galantis’ Backstory

Setting a new standard for songwriting in dance music, Galantis is a collaborative project between Christian Karlsson (aka Bloodshy, one-third of Miike Snow) and Linus Eklöw (aka Style of Eye). Their debut album “Pharmacy” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance album chart on the strength of RIAA gold-certified single “Peanut Butter Jelly” and platinum-certified smash “Runaway (U & I)” – the latter of which earned GRAMMY nominations for “Best Dance Recording” and “Best Remixed Recording” – while their 2017 sophomore album “The Aviary” (featuring platinum-certified single “No Money”) saw a top 10 debut in 23 countries. The duo has received over 3 billion cumulative worldwide streams and over 1 billion video views to date.

2019 has seen a steady stream of tracks from Galantis, including “Bones” featuring OneRepublic, “Spaceship” featuring Uffie and “Satisfied” featuring MAX. Recent collaborations have also included “We Can Get High” with Yellow Claw, “Roots” with Valerie Broussard and “I Found U” with Passion Pit.

The story of Galantis started back in 2009. Working as Bloodshy, Karlsson’s songwriting collaborations have included Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry and Britney Spears (whose “Toxic” earned a GRAMMY for “Best Dance Recording”). After reaching out to Eklöw (who produced Icona Pop’s hit single “I Love It” as Style of Eye) to remix Miike Snow’s “Animal,” the two continued to collaborate until ultimately Galantis was born. Following their blockbuster performance debut at 2014’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the duo quickly rose to become one of dance music’s most dynamic and in-demand live performers.
